After more than five years of countless raves, the Berlin based collective [selected] are launching their own label. The attitude, that has defined their approach to throwing parties all over the city, has manifested in their signature sound – raw, in-your-face and unapologetic. Of course, the very first release needs to set the tone for what’s to come, in true selected fashion. The rising DJ and producer Chlär makes sure of that. „Only The Past” is the fitting start to the labels catalogue.
The title track throws you right into the void. A wobbling bassline is accompanied by floating synths, moving from left to right, from top to bottom, pulling and pushing wherever the rough percussion leads them – anthem-like energy from start to finish.
„Body Interactions” hits the Zeitgeist with its acid-inspired synth lines. The Russian vocal, hailing from the darkest backrooms of Eastern European industrial plants, makes sure to grab everyone’s attention and elevates the track to a reckless dancefloor bomb.
Chlär really is a „Naughty Boy”. The third track is what you would call an absolute weapon. Here, the acid-infused lines and heavy kick drums are even nastier than before and seem to trap you in their force field. No way to escape. Who would have thought that Justin Timberlake can make for such an efficient banger.
Narciss’ „BDSM Remix” of the Timberlake-tool marks the conclusion of the release. The acid bassline creeps in the background, never getting out of hand but also – in true BDSM fashion – keeping a tight grip, pushing you to the limit and ultimately releasing you into ecstasy. An appropriate finish.
